"... All I heard was some old man's opinion, saying that he wasn't ..." 'twas also supported by the statement that a "scammer" would keep info to himself, and charge for same, which Tony does NOT appear to be doing.
An accusation of another being "intentionally deceitful" is quite serious. Is it not possible that one reports as accurately as one can based upon the info one HAS been Given at the time, from the sources one has garnered? Remember the many blind men viewing the elephant from many different angles/ perspectives & attempting to describe same, obviously with differing "views"?
Why would anyone wish to be INTENTIONaLLY deceitful in trying to gain an audience/ support for one's ideas? Judging the INTENT of one's heart is most presumptuous, imo. People also have differing manners/ vocabulary in communicating that can also be misunderstood and or misinterpreted.
It also appears you perhaps did not listen to or hear what Peter shared shortly after "some old man", or what his background/ experience was. You might also find what the "old man" shared earlier in the call quite fascinating, perhaps giving a much better idea of who he may be... or not- always one's choice what one believes, is it not?
