Being Aware of Awareness

Feb15 by Wes Annac

Written by Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness
“If, then, I were asked for the most important advice I could give, that which I considered to be the most useful to the men of our century, I should simply say: in the name of God, stop a moment, cease your work, look around you.”
― Leo Tolstoy (1)
A reader recently mentioned an interesting idea, which is that we can be aware of awareness.
How can we do this, you ask? From my perspective, the best way is to act on the things we become aware of. Awareness is a concept that doesn’t receive as much attention as it should, and if we’re more aware of it, we might make choices each day that are aligned with it.
Most of us consider ourselves spiritually aware, but how often do we act on the things we’ve learned? How often do we actually put our lessons into play? If we really ask ourselves these questions, we might find that we haven’t expanded or lived up to our awareness as much as we could be.
There’s so much to be aware of right now, and there are a lot of positive lifestyle choices we can make to align with the things we’ve learned. Awareness is meant to be used for good, and we can use it to cultivate a positive, spiritually aligned lifestyle if we’re motivated enough.
Awareness is something we need to share with everyone, but sharing it can be hard if we aren’t aware of it ourselves.
Like I said, the best way to be aware of it is to put the things we’ve learned into play, and once we’ve successfully cultivated a conscious lifestyle, we can share the things we’ve learned with everyone else who has yet to align with love or contribute to the planetary awakening.
“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” ― David Foster Wallace (2)
I don’t really have any tips to help us stay aware of the concept of awareness, beyond the recommendation to act on the things we’ve learned, and it seems that the best way to stay aware is to keep the things we’ve learned in mind each day and try to be conscious pioneers.
As long as the heart’s brimming and the mind’s open and filled with the awareness that’ll help us change the world, staying aware will be as easy as breathing. We have to remember to stay aware, however, even when the usual distractions come along and try to stop us.
Elevating the planetary consciousness will get easier if we do, and we’ll influence others to use their awareness for good.
An open mind (and heart) is important if we want to stay aware, and flowingly expressing our awareness with creativity can be hard when the mind’s closed. Opening the mind once doesn’t give us an automatic creative free pass, and there will be times when the mind’s influence is just too overbearing for us to do anything creatively significant.
The good news is that all hope isn’t lost when the mind’s closed. Once we realize we’re operating with a closed mind, we can take whatever steps are necessary to open it back up and enjoy the flowing creative expressions that are practically non-existent when it’s closed.
I don’t think true awareness can exist without an open mind, and we’ll want to eliminate the perceived need to control everything – especially our creativity – if we want to act on our awareness. A closed mind is basically poison to our goal to use love and awareness progressively, whereas an open mind is a companion we won’t ever want to lose.
Anything’s possible with an open mind. We realize that we’re infinite and we can achieve whatever we want (as long as we’re willing to work for it) when the mind’s open, but when it’s closed, our awareness diminishes and we feel weak; unable to do anything significant.
Inability is an illusion, as we’re learning, but with a closed mind, we’ll be convinced that its reality and we’ll stop ourselves from doing a lot of great things that’d help a lot of people. We have to stay aware, open-minded and confident in ourselves if we want to use our newfound awareness progressively, and the more we try, the easier it gets.
Being aware of awareness isn’t always easy, but it is easy to convince ourselves we’re aware when, in reality, our actions display that we still have some inner work to do. Awareness isn’t just the knowledge of certain ideas, concepts or philosophies – it’s the ability to live up to the standard those philosophies set and, again, stay aligned with the lifestyle choices they cause us to make.
“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.” ― Maya Angelou (3)
Awareness can change our lives, and if we’re truly aware of it, we can ask ourselves as we go about each day if what we’re doing is aligned with our social and spiritual awareness. The last thing we want to be is hypocrites, but hypocrisy and various other limiting, destructive tendencies are easy to fall into when the mind isn’t open.
As long as we stay active, aware and willing to appease our own awareness with our actions each day, we’ll finally start to change the world and bring other people into the light. They’ll live by the example we’ll have set, so we’ll not only make our lives, but theirs (and plenty of others) a lot easier.
Awareness requires action and open-mindedness, and I don’t think these three qualities could survive without each other. Let’s put them all in play and use our creativity (or whatever else works for us) to change the world, because we have a lot to do and a decreasing amount of time to do it all.
