The Bizarre Mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle

Christopher Columbus’s voyage to the Americas
Dating as far back as 1492 there are claims of dubious activity in the Bermuda Triangle. Columbus, is the first documented European to ever sale through the area and he reported some strange and bizarre activity. Not only were his compasses going slightly haywire but he reported the sea rising, after being completely calm, without any logical reason why . He and his men also saw a bright, disc shaped object apparently rise out of the ocean and fly into the sky.
The Ellen Austin
The second notable and documented instance of strange activity was the Ellen Austin in 1881 which was when a crew supposedly came across a ship (the Ellen Austin) that was in bad condition and offered to help them. They placed on board the crew and attempted to sail with it to New York but then, mysteriously, the ship simply disappeared. A check from Lloyd’s of London records proved the existence of the Meta, built in 1854 and that in 1880 the Meta was renamed Ellen Austin.
The USS Cyclops
The third popular instance in history actually resulted in the single largest loss of life of the US Navy outside of war, when the collier USS Cyclops mysteriously disappeared without a trace with a crew of 309 people sometime shortly after March 4, 1918, when they left the island of Barbados.
There are countless theories about what became of the crew and ship, some blaming storms, capsizing, and covert war activity but still, to this day, there is no conclusive explanation.
Flight 19
Flight 19 was a training flight of five torpedo bombers that mysteriously disappeared on December 5, 1945, while flying over the area of the Bermuda Triangle in a training exercise.
The flight leader Lieutenant Charles Taylor though, just over an hour into the training exercise reported something was dreadfully wrong as all of his compasses were not working. The following is what officially took place in terms of communication;
“This is an emergency. We seem to be off course. We cannot see land … repeat … we cannot see land.”
“What is your position?”
“We’re not sure of our position. We can’t be sure where we are. We seem to be lost.”
“Head due west”
“We don’t know which way is west. Everything is wrong … strange. We can’t be sure of any direction. Even the ocean doesn’t look as it should.”
The flight soon after disappeared and never returned to base.
To add to the mystery, a search and rescue aircraft deployed to look for the missing fleet of planes, a PBM Mariner with a 13-man crew, also disappeared!
As you can imagine, this has inspired countless different theories of what this could all be about. Conventional explanations propose that it is due to weather anomalies and malfunctioning equipment. Other theories include sea monsters, UFO’s, a gate way to another dimension, ancient technology from the lost city of Atlantis that interferes with the equipment but to this day there is not accepted consensus.
