7 Days left to reach 30 000 signatures ~ PETITION: Free Julian Assange
To: Sir Nicolas BRATZA President of the European Court of Human Rights
We demand that Julian Assange be freed and not prosecuted. Imprisoning Mr. Assange would set a precedent that people and journalists that speak the truth about power should fear censorship and punishment. Censoring Mr. Assange is equatable to dictatorship, not democracy as the United Nations was set up to protect. "Democracy is a universally recognized ideal and is one of the core values of the United Nations. Democracy provides an environment for the protection and effective realization of human rights." If the United States and the European Union truly represent democracy then they should not prosecute a person for speaking the truth about the abuse of power. This petition seeks to protect Julian Assange for his freedom of speech and demands that he be freed without fear of prosecution.

Ecuador is prepared to go as far as the International Court of Justice in The Hague, to defend its sovereign decision to grant asylum to Julian Assange. Speaking exclusively to RT's Spanish channel, the country's Foreign Minister said they're standing up to London and Washington to protect freedom of speech and the right to personal integrity.
