9 Amazing Science Facts from Recent Studies That Will Blow Your Mind

Scientific studies have produced some of the craziest results in recent times. These amazing science facts might surprise and astound you!

The world is uncovering amazing science facts every day. Recently, studies have produced a few of these facts that have blown us away. The fact that sun’s flares are just as powerful as several atomic bombs is just one of those interesting tidbits. Also, you may not know that space is dead quiet. Not a sound can be heard outside our atmosphere. Yeah, facts like this make us take pause to think.

Factual and Outstanding

There are many other strange and truly interesting discoveries in recent times. These discoveries are only the tip of the iceberg. In the near future, what we know now will be nothing compared to the ever-evolving scientific world. Here are 10 amazing science facts that will surely astound you.

Full of Bacteria

You may know quite a bit about the human body, but there’s something you may have missed. I bet you don’t know how much bacteria lurks beneath your skin. Well, here it is – there are more bacteria than human cells present in the body.
That’s right, our bodies are teeming with bacteria, but no worries. Most of this bacteria is good, helping us function and digest our foods correctly. Without these various bacteria, we wouldn’t gain weight correctly and our immune system would be compromised. In a nutshell, there are enough bacteria to fill a half gallon jug.

The undead gene

When I speak of undead genes, I’m not talking about the walking dead here. Rather, I speak of how the genes within our body perform once we flatline. Yes, you heard it right, genes continue to be active after your death, and in fact, they become even more active for a period of time.
Scientists have discovered that developmental gene activity in a newly dead person acts in the same way as gene activity in an embryo. It’s probably because the state of the body right after death resembles that of the embryo. How fascinating, right?

Sleeping trees

Just like human beings, plants require rest and sleep. For instance, flowers open up either during the night or day, depending on their species. How do we know this? Well, scientists have studied the day/night rhythms of trees, using a laser scanning point clouds system which measures the “droop” of trees during the night.
To make sure the weather or location wasn’t affecting the results, scientists studied one tree in Australia and one in Finland and during a time of year that weather was mild. Results show that trees do “droop”, and show a difference in height of 10 cm. That’s not much but it proves a period of rest. Trees regain their full height only a couple of hours after sunrise.

Around the world 5 times

Here’s an amazing science fact! Did you know that you could walk around the world 5 times and it would be the equivalent of every step taken by a human being in their lifetime? What I mean is, you know all those steps you take from your first toddling step until that last random step before death, yeah all those steps. The world is surely a huge place, wouldn’t you think?

Two metal objects in space

Two metal objects can stick together in space, permanently. There is no fusion involved, it’s called cold welding.
This can only be accomplished by pressing two pieces of metal together which have been cleaned. Because of the absence of oxidation, this process is possible. Although I must admit, it takes quite a bit of pressure to start the process of permanent melding.

The mesentery (new human organ)

Although it may not seem that glamorous, the mesentery, newly discovered bodily organ, has many functions.
The mesentery is actually an organ which connects our intestines to our inner abdominal wall and is responsible for coordinating our immune system to defend us from diseases. It also keeps our intestines in place when we walk around. Like I said, the mesentery is not all that attractive but a useful organ that never really got the recognition it deserved.

Time crystals

A new form of matter has been discovered, called time crystals. Unlike regular crystals which have repeating patterns in space, a time crystal has repeating patterns in time. It’s much like striking jello and observing the result in a separate incident.

They are the opposite of equilibrium, in that they always need a trigger to keep them in perpetual motion – this can be done by zapping an electron with a laser (and a few other details and tactics, I might add). Oh, and that theory of the conservation of energy (energy is never created or destroyed)… yeah, that might be a little questionable now.

GPS destroys natural navigation

Since the advent of GPS navigational technology, we’ve been able to go wherever we please, without a paper map. But, the problem is, our brains are losing the ability to naturally navigate our surroundings. This ability is an innate ability that seems to be deteriorating due to lack of use.
Maybe, just maybe, we should sometimes try to figure our way about without technologies help.

Introvert vs extrovert brain functioning

Recent studies have shown us marked differences between the brain of the introvert and extrovert. While the extrovert has a better memory, the introvert possesses more gray matter.
In other words, introverts have a better ability to rationalize and make decisions but have a problem remembering things. Interesting, to say the least.

A future of scientific advancement

There is no doubt that amazing science facts will continue to astound us. Although each year that goes by brings us more and more unbelievable discoveries, we’ve really seen nothing yet. As we learn about science, medicine and the world of art, may we always be curious and open-minded. For this is the way of a successful and truly innovative world of tomorrow.
