A mag 6.4 - 233km SE of Sarangani, Philippines and a mag 6.1 - 75km S of Rishiri Town, Japan both in less than an hour of each other are the 3rd and 4th major quakes of January and the 3rd and 4th of 2016
The last major quake of 2015 was the magnitude 6.3 in Afghanistan on Christmas day.
2015 finished the year with a total of 145 major quakes which is the second lowest total of major quakes in one year since 2002 with 139 and 1999 with 136, it is safe to say major quakes are slightly down on average for the last 16 years....
