M4.3 Earthquake shakes Hawaii
Post by Newsroom - Jul 23, 2016 - 0

The big island of Hawaii was shaken around 3:30 AM eastern US time this morning, (around 10:30 PM local time last night) by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on the west side of the island. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of only 11.5 km.
People in Hawaii reported the shaking lasted about 30 seconds and moved things as large as refrigerators a few inches from their wall.
No major damage or injuries are presently reported.
Hawaii has earthquakes often because volcanoes (which formed the islands) are still active, but a magnitude 4.3 is unusual for the islands.
