The True Self, Material Self and Ego

Attaining Sense of Self through Materiality or Ego

In attempts to defend the ego, and when attempting to solely pleasure the material self, we are acting through the shadow of the true self by attempting to reach a state of psycho-spiritual homeostasis by relying on physical nature alone or the projection of a false self-image.

The Partiality of the Conscious Mind and Physical Senses

The sense of the shadow is related to the partial view of the self or false self-image. These concepts are related to the inversion of the mirror image of the self reflected or the projection of personal ideals that distort the perception of reality and the self into a partial view.
An interesting question is whether any self-image is truly accurate. Does the conscious mind have access to enough experience to fully grasp the true self?
The material self when viewed as separate from the whole is the densest and most physically relative version of existence by comparison to the immaterial or mental and emotional self. Essentially the ego is the conscious perspective of the self at a given moment, which must transcend the temporal and conceptual limitations to align with the fully composed version of the true self. This partiality is enabled by the physical body existing relative to a single moment in time that is comprised of many smaller moments connected together and yet only having access to a certain portion of that at once through biological consciousness.
The ego can be seen as the mental and emotional version of the self that is projected to others or even the perceived by the conscious mind. The ego relies on the projection of choices that contribute to the true nature, yet the ego does not actually know the true nature. For this reason, solely relying on the ego brings one into the realm of material or partial identity and out of a spiritual comprehension which surpasses the limitations of the ego as well as the physical body. The paradox is that this ego also allows for the comprehension of the individual identity, which then relates to the nature of the true self which includes the immaterial or spiritual nature.

The Conscious Moment, the Ego, and the Physical Self

Part of this may be relative to the idea that as the conscious perspective advances towards a transcendent or ‘larger than physical’ perspective, the conscious mind automatically begins to transform or even fade away by default. That is, when one is awed by the richness of the dreaming world or the heightened spiritual experience, the conscious mind takes a back seat. Maybe this is partially because of the tendency for a disrupted orientation and decision making process in times of great stress or great stimulation. Or maybe this aspect of psycho-spirituality is constructed in this way so as to hide the greater realization of the true self from the waking reality of the conscious mind. Maybe this is part of the cosmic game of hide and seek.
Does this only apply to humans or do animals experience this as well? Could it be that the animals lack the conscious sense of self and thus ego required for such a game? Would this indicate that they are constantly in a state of transcended awareness?

Pure-Awareness

The existence of pure awareness could be related to how the more refined spiritual self and soul could possibly be present without biologically generated consciousness. This may be related to the refining and sharpening of the soul so as to form a personally relative identity out of raw etheric material. One could also say that the soul is not created or generated but always was and that the effects of the biological catalysts for awareness merely refine what was always there. This process possibly repeats or occurs in successive layers.
The main idea here is that consciousness is not required for awareness, and self-awareness may be possible without biological consciousness.

Cosmic Absurdity, Paradox and Drama

As Alan Watts says, the first thing “God” does after coming into awareness is to say “get out of here man”, thereby refracting that supreme awareness into an infinite or virtually infinite amount of extensions. The first thing “God” does, is hide himself by being you.
What a game! Seriously, what kind of game is that? Would you ever hide from yourself around the house and then when you know you’re good and hidden, leap from your hiding space and attempt to find yourself? This is a cosmic dance that goes far beyond conscious comprehension as regarded from an entirely physical perspective.
A useful question may be whether there is any physical perspective without consciousness or any consciousness without the physical perspective. Surely there is more to existence than biological consciousness, and even more to self-awareness than biologically generated consciousness. Does this lean towards the introduction of advanced technology capable of rendering the conscious experience? Or maybe how the soul itself is a form of advanced technology?
Our true self is, by definition, neither fully physical or fully immaterial yet a perfect combination of both so closely and paradoxically intertwined that they are neither solely one or the other but simultaneously both.
Such a game must be the cosmic version of simultaneously dreaming, learning, interacting within a virtual reality, generating and experiencing entertainment, while being born, nourishing the self, contributing to society, and raising a family all in one day. If one thinks about this, that might simply be a very advanced version of a simulated existence.

The Potential For All Encompassing Simulation

But then, if that is the advanced simulated version what is the “real” version? Could it be that the “real” version contains no limits and therefore no way to actually comprehend each part of the experience as it occurs? In order to enjoy the experience we much also not enjoy various parts and in order to attain this we must introduce the possibility of distortion and pain, duality and contrast. Since the limitless whole would be entirely full-stream, pain as well as the material aspect of enjoyment may not be possible. Thus through the introduction of the concept of material enjoyment, we can experience pain which is the contrast for such enjoyment.
This leads us to the conclusion that simulation is synonymous with limitation and that non-simulation or true reality is limitless and thus infinitely expanse and simultaneously definable and undefinable. Is paradoxical a defining quality? What if that is the only defining quality, paradoxically, along with all the other possible defining qualities?

The “High” Score, A Balancing Act

All may be a very impressive game. Maybe it is possible to live a life that deals so graciously with the dual nature of existence that the immaterial self imprints into the conscious mind, or the conscious mind into the immaterial and thus there is an “afterglow” of this imprinting that lasts for a while with the immaterial self on the “other side”. In this way the material identity remains with immaterial and the immaterial remains with the material in physical waking life. Thus a person is said to have a “soul”, while really the material and immaterial have each other on both sides of to the cosmic membrane.
If this were to possibly fade depending on the intensity of the imprint, maybe one can apply effort towards producing that undying personal identity aspect which could then perceive or momentarily generate the physical perspective of existence at will in order to “reinvigorate” the immaterial sense of enjoyment and yielding access to a self-aware immaterial existence for indefinite amount of experience. Could this be impressed upon the soul or through the conscious mind so intensely and well-balanced that this regenerative quality continues for eternity?
Is this just a matter of obtaining a “high score” which would not be measured by quantity, but quality of emotions, ideas and actions and specifically the balancing of the material and immaterial perspectives to synchronize, embody, and reflect the true nature of the whole of existence?
