Dr. Wernher Von Braun is credited with not only being a leader in the development of space technology, but also revolutionized official US government space task force group planning for interplanetary exploration and travel. Specifically Dr. Von Braun originated a manned mars mission plan in the 1940's that continued to be planned into 1973, 1982, through the 1990's.
