We are living through a mental health epidemic. Anxiety and depression are reaching unprecedented levels. According to recent figures, about 800,000 people a year are committing suicide. That’s a higher number than armed conflicts and natural disasters combined. Something has to change. Enter psychedelic therapy. Psychedelics (including cannabis) seem to be uniquely able to temporarily dissolve the boundaries of the ego, the repetitive mental patterns associated with depression and anxiety. This opens up something Neuroscientist Robin Carhart-Harris calls “pivotal mental states”— states of heightened plasticity where therapeutic interventions can be transformative. Think of it like compressing 10 years of therapy in an afternoon. A new era is upon us, and the right players in the space can change the world.
