Homes lost as fire nightmare continues

ARSONISTS in Victoria and NSW have sparked fear and anxiety among suburban residents, and anger amongst fire authorities.
A deliberately-lit blaze has threatened several homes including an
aged care facility in Melbourne’s northwest, leaving local residents
panicked and distressed.
Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board spokesman Trevor
Woodward said residents were calling in tears at 1.30am (AEDT) this
morning as the scrub fire in Brimbank Park at Keilor East threatened
their back fences.
The fire was one of three deliberately-lit blazes in the park overnight.
In NSW, three teenage boys have been charged with deliberately
lighting a fire in bushland in Sydney’s west during a “catastrophic”
fire conditions yesterday.
Officers were called to a fire in bushland behind Chestnut and Sedgman Crescent at about 1:15pm (AEDT).
About 15 trucks from the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and five police
cars rushed to the scene. Three teenage boys were arrested near the fire
and questioned at Mt Druitt police station.
In Victoria, up to 20 homes have been destroyed in
Victoria and at least one has been lost in NSW, as fires continue to
