Former DNI Kash Patel Confirms Jack Teixeira Would Not Have Had Access to Documents He Leaked

Despite working in information technology within an intelligence wing of the Air Force, Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira would not have legally had access to the classified information he’s accused of leaking on a Discord server, former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Kash Patel said Friday. Patel’s assessment echoes what was written at RedState on Thursday.


On Breitbart News, Patel also described several methods by which Teixeira could have gained access to the information:

Patel said, first, the suspected leaker, Jack Teixeira, would not have had access to the information without someone within the Department of Defense (DOD) or the intelligence community giving it to him, providing it to him, or telling him it should be put out there. “It’s just not possible,” he said.
“You can be the biggest IT person in DOD, and you are still compartmented off of the actual information. Almost never does an IT person need to know, as we say, the substance of the intelligence. Their job is to provide the secure informations systems around it to protect any disclosures.”

Surprisingly, ABC News also published a story on Saturday citing defense officials who agreed that Teixeira’s job description does not equal “need to know.”

Defense officials told ABC News that having a TS-SCI clearance is typical for Air Force personnel who in order to provide IT support might need access to classified spaces, computers and networks so they could do their jobs.
But the fact that you have a clearance does not mean you have access to everything at that level. That access is based on your “need to know” the information for your job.

Some have argued that since Teixeira worked on the computer systems within a SCIF he would have had access to these documents and that perhaps the intelligence wing he supported possessed the work product of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Presidential Daily Brief. Patel says, no way:

“This is crazy sensitive stuff,” he said. “Ninety-nine percent of people who have a Top Secret/SCI clearance don’t have access to this information. And me, as the former deputy DNI and chief of staff of the DOD and publisher of the [Presidential Daily Brief], with the highest security classification, knows that, literally, there is not a lot of people in the U.S. that have access to this kind of intel. It’s done for a reason. So this doesn’t happen.”
“The amount of intelligence they got…Somebody’s giving them that type of documentation. It’s just not readily available,” he said about the reporting. “Where did they get that from? That doesn’t come from anyone who doesn’t have direct access at the end in the United States.”

As Patel said, in addition to the classification level and the “need to know” basis, there’s also the compartmentalization of information. While silo-ing of information within a corporate structure is a bad thing, within military intelligence it is vital.

On Thursday we suggested the possibility that Teixeira did not act alone:

A possibility that needs to be considered is that Teixeira was given many of the documents by someone else who did have access to them, and who wanted them to be leaked.

According to Patel, that possibility has a very high probability of being true based on the methodical way in which the leaks occurred.

“Whether he’s in IT or not, is irrelevant. The way it was produced, the way it was put out there — pages, printed photographs taken, published online — that is a methodical way of releasing classified information illegally,” he said.
“I think he’s definitely working with other people in DOD or the intel space to get this information out. This is an Assange-style operation. This kid — no offense to him — at 21 years old, cannot put out this five-months, unlawful disclosure of sensitive intelligence,” he said.

ABC News highlighted certain portions of the government’s complaint against Teixeira that are problematic given claims that Teixeira did this for months with nobody knowing. As we reported Thursday, several stories about Teixeira were stealth-edited on Wednesday and Thursday. One of those stories, from NBC News, originally said that officials had been tracking Teixeira for some time. Then it was changed to say that they were “onto him.” Then that paragraph was deleted in its entirety.

But the criminal complaint details what was found on logging systems regarding Teixeira accessing various documents or searching for them.

The criminal complaint provides a description of how investigators used information from an unnamed U.S. government agency that “has access to logs of certain documents” to track how Teixeira allegedly used his clearance in February to look for a specific document that he later posted on a small Discord channel the following day.
Another logging system from another U.S. government agency that “can monitor certain searches conducted on its classified networks” indicated that Teixeira may have been concerned about the initial news reports that classified intelligence documents had begun to appear on Twitter and Telegram.
Teixeira on April 6 “used his government computer to search classified intelligence reporting for the word ‘leak,'” according to the complaint.
“The first public reporting regarding the Government Information appeared on or around April 6, 2023,” it added. “Accordingly, there is reason to believe that TEIXEIRA was searching for classified reporting regarding the U.S. Intelligence Community’s assessment of the identity of the individual who transmitted classified national defense information, to include the Government Document.”

It will be interesting to see what is found on print logs, and security video, and file transfer logs. There are still major questions to be answered about how this happened, who was involved, and what their motives are. The fact that ABC News is (maybe unintentionally) casting doubt on the narrative that Teixeira was a disgruntled, gun-loving, traitorous racist who acted alone is significant and raises additional questions about who’s driving what narrative with various news organizations.

Since documents began to surface last week which reveal damning information about the US role in Ukraine and the espionage it conducts on its ostensible allies, questions have lingered about the identity and motives of the person responsible – and a suspect has finally been unveiled.
Americans got their first glimpse at the alleged source of the leaked Pentagon documents that have dominated the news cycle this week as 21-year-old Airman 1st Class Jack Teixeira was taken into custody Thursday by heavily-armed federal agents at his home in Dighton, Massachusetts.
Teixeira is likely to be charged with violating the Espionage Act as Attorney General Merrick Garland earlier indicated that the service member was arrested over the alleged “unauthorized removal, retention and transmission of classified national defense information.”
An initial court appearance for Teixeira is scheduled for Friday at the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
With the arrest, media focus has quickly shifted from the fallout surrounding the leaked materials – which indicated that US officials privately acknowledge the Kiev regime has little hope of victory, and that NATO special forces are fighting on the frontlines against Russian troops – to the identity of the alleged leaker.
Teixeira, a nearly four-year member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was reportedly assigned to manage and troubleshoot computers and communications systems for the 102nd Intelligence Wing at Otis Air Base, and comes from a military family.

A spokesman for the Pentagon reportedly defended the DoD’s major intelligence breach by saying “we entrust our members with a lot of responsibility at a very early age.”
But regardless of his relative youth, it remains unclear why an enlisted airman, who hadn’t yet even reached officer status, would have access to high-level documents containing intelligence apparently compiled by the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
According to widely-circulated accounts by the Washington Post and New York Times, who effectively honed in on the alleged leaker’s identity on those agencies’ behalf, Teixeira began leaking photos of highly-sensitive documents to a group of 20 to 30 of his mostly-younger friends online after they grew bored of reading mere transcriptions.
The Times quickly insisted that “Airman Teixeira was no whistle-blower,” seizing on an alleged video which apparently shows the young airman yelling racial and antisemitic slurs.
But there are apparently signs that Teixeira had serious problems with the government he served.
According to the Washington Post, he told members of his group online that the US government “knew in advance that a white supremacist intended to go on a shooting rampage” at a supermarket frequented by Black shoppers in Buffalo in May 2022, but “let the killings proceed so they could argue for increased funding.”
Fox News host Tucker Carlson pushed back on Teixeira’s behalf in a Thursday night monologue.
“So this 21-year-old Air National Guardsman from Massachusetts is ‘not a whistleblower,’“ mocked the popular conservative commentator.
“He revealed the crimes, therefore he’s the criminal,” Carlson explained, sardonically, adding, “that’s how Washington works: telling the truth is the only real sin.”

An independent journalist and host of “Conspiracy Truths” launched a Twitter thread laying out her interpretations of the recent document leak that has been making headlines, and her tweet made a considerable splash of its own, having been viewed 2.3 million times as of this writing.


The self-described anti-government Libertarian laid out a series of assertions in the form of bullet-point paragraphs. Before doing so, however, she opened with this:

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but 20 something year old National Guardsman aren’t privy to the kind of information that was just leaked about our own corrupt government. And if he did somehow pull this off…the kid’s an absolute legend and national hero.”
The show host on “America Happens” was not timid in making her case, and did not mince words. She continued:
“I honestly hope more comes out. I hope this takes the entire military industrial complex and all the war pigs in DC down with it. Let’s break down what our government just got caught lying to the American people about, shall we?”



I don’t know who needs to hear this, but 20 something year old National Guardsman aren’t privy to the kind of information that was just leaked about our own corrupt government. And if he did somehow pull this off…the kid’s an absolute legend and national hero. I honestly hope more comes out. I hope this takes the entire military industrial complex and all the war pigs in DC down with it. Let’s break down what our government just got caught lying to the American people about, shall we? • Despite lying to the public about this not being a by-proxy war…it absolutely is. US and NATO forces are actively funding and training the Ukraine army to fight a war with Russia that they 100% provoked in the first place and lied about. • We have US troops on the ground fighting Russians despite no one in Congress voting to go to war. The military industrial complex did this knowing damn well this could escalate into a catastrophic full blown nuclear war with Russia. (Which I dare say is exactly what they want, because they can’t afford to have Putin expose the puppet regime we installed, money laundering, sex trafficking, and the dozen or so illegal bioweapon labs the DOD already reluctantly admitted were there but said were just for “research” like Wuhan.) • Ukraine casualties are much, much higher than they’re saying, and Russian casualties are less than quarter of what this administration has been telling the media to report on. (Ukraine is losing, this will become Vietnam 2.0, the biggest sufferers will be the Ukrainian civilians themselves, and the only people that will benefit will be the banks funding it, and the war pigs in the Pentagon fleecing tax payers for all of it.) • Intelligence agencies were spying on everyone, including their allies…which we all kinda figured they did, but now that they’re caught…it’s going to create a HUGE international issue. • Ukraine’s defenses are almost depleted, so our suspicions were correct that all the money Congress unbelievably sent was definitely getting money laundered right back into corrupt officials’ pockets. These leaked documents prove beyond a doubt that this war was initiated behind the backs of the American people. Until we start protesting en masse and holding these political criminals responsible ourselves, they will continue to use this immense systematic fake news campaign of media lies and manipulation against us. Every state funded media channel that played along with this, should be immediately defunded as well. The thread then closed with the following:
“These leaked documents prove beyond a doubt that this war was initiated behind the backs of the American people. Until we start protesting en masse and holding these political criminals responsible ourselves, they will continue to use this immense systematic fake news campaign of media lies and manipulation against us. Every state funded media channel that played along with this, should be immediately defunded as well. If *anything* could unite the American people against our own out-of-control federal government…the fact they just tried to start WW3 for profit and world domination should be it.”
In addition to its 2.3 million views, the Twitter thread currently has 16.9K likes and has been retweeted 4,428 times along with an additional 318 quote tweets.
The woman behind the thread, “Hidden History Buff” Mindy Robinson, lives in Las Vegas. In a follow-up tweet, however, she wrote that the Massachusetts town where the leaker, Air National Guardsman Jack Texeira, was detained is “actually the same small town” where she went to high school.
“Good job if this was really you, my fellow Masshole,” she wrote, with an accompanying American flag emoji. “I can’t wait to see how these DC crooks lie their ever-loving ass off to cover this one up.”
That tweet has 83.1K views.
