Wednesday night reports from Oceti Sakowin Camp at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation describe a late night retrieval of confiscated medic canoes held behind barbed wire by police. One witness reported a member of the group who went to retrieve their property made a makeshift flotation device to paddle across the river in freezing cold temperatures only to find the canoes pierced with bullet holes once they returned to camp.
The first picture shows the canoes on Turtle Island positioned behind barbed wire fence on the snow. The second image shows a brave water protector paddling across the river to Turtle Island. In the last photo you can clearly see that the canoes have been retrieved with the exception of one boat still remaining to be removed. Additional photos will be released as they become available.
