This sailor was dramatically plucked to safety after a giant 100ft wide sinkhole opened up in the middle of the Shropshire Union canal in Middlewich, Cheshire just feet from his boat. The crater opened up at 11.40pm on March 15, 2018 and completely drained the canal.

That must be horrifying! This sailor was nearly sucked down a 100ft-wide sinkhole that opened up on a canal while he was boating on the Shropshire Union canal in Middlewich, Cheshire, at 11.40pm on March 15, 2018.
This aerial view of the crater is just terrifying. via Twitter And then, the Shropshire Union canal had lost all its water. via Twitter
As the sinkhole opened it sucked the water from the canal causing the sailor and his boat to be dragged back before coming to a halt just feet away from the crack after the canal was left completely drained and the water flooded down onto a lower embankment.
It’s really weird what you can find in an empty canal:
What a terrifying sinkhole!

Whoever threw this away probably thought it would never see the light of day again. It was found just below a bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal in Middlewich, which is now empty due to a landslide. The plot thickens. Thanks go to@middlewichnews for using my picture online.
