Ancient Manuals to the Afterlife – Waking Times : Waking Times. From and with permission of Waking Times April 15, 2015 Video – Two of the world’s most important spiritual texts from the past are The Egyptian Book of the Dead and The Tibetan Book of the Dead. These books, written in two completely different parts of the world, describe in detail the process of transcendence from this plane into the next and offer valuable advice for anyone on a spiritual journey. The Tibetan scriptures were written in the 18th century, while the Egyptian texts were written over 4000 years ago and may be the oldest spiritual scripture in existence. Both offer very similar accounts of people with near-death experiences. The Egyptian Book of the Dead was part of a tradition of funerary texts which were painted onto objects, not papyrus. The texts consist of a number of magic spells intended to assist a dead person’s journey through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife.
Similarly, The Tibetan Book of the Dead was intended as a tool to attain psychological freedom and to serve as a map for the journey one faces into the afterlife. Some believe it is filled with universal wisdom that can be attained by all who read it.
