Hazardous materials spill as 70-car train derails in Richland County, North Dakota

A train consisting of 70 cars transporting hazardous materials derailed in North Dakota’s Richland County, Fox News reported.
The incident occurred Monday morning, approximately one mile southeast of Wyndmere, with no casualties being reported.
According to officials, crews will allow the leaked materials to solidify due to the cold weather. It is expected to cause the substances to turn into a gel, as reported by WZFG.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office told the news outlet that the nearby roadways of 158 and 159 Avenue Southeast, which are located between Highway 13 and 14, will be closed.
According to officials, there are no waterways or fire involved in the current train derailment incident, Valley News reported.
The cleanup operation is anticipated to take between seven and 10 days, the reports stated.
The Ohio derailment involved about 50 cars, which spilled hazardous materials and necessitated the evacuation of local residents.
The chemical spill caused by the derailment had killed an estimated 3,500 small fish across 712 miles of streams, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Some residents living near the derailment site were also concerned that they and their animals will be exposed to toxins through the air, water, and soil.
Another incident involving two Canadian Pacific train cars derailed in a Chicago suburb on Sunday. One of the cars was empty, while the other contained wheat, as reported by FOX32 Chicago citing officials.
Meanwhile, authorities have also reported five other freight train car derailments in Massachusetts last Thursday. Although there was no transportation of hazardous materials involved and no injuries were reported.
