Mystery tremors in Denmark were from an 'unknown source'

Scientists have been left perplexed by a series of unexplained quakes on the Danish Baltic island of Bornholm.
During the weekend, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (or GEUS) reported that it had received tip-offs from several dozen people regarding "earthquake-like tremors" on the island.
The phenomenon, which occurred mainly on Saturday afternoon, was described as a deep rumbling, shaking or rattling that was strong enough to cause some minor structural damage to buildings.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but the source of the quakes still remains something of a mystery.
Earlier today, the GEUS reported that the tremors were "not caused by earthquakes, but by pressure waves from an event in the atmosphere".
The institute was keen to stress, however, that the source and nature of this event was unknown.
"The seismologists can report that it is unlikely that the tremors originate from a controlled explosion in Poland, which was carried out shortly before the first reports of tremors on Bornholm," GEUS said in a statement.
The search for answers continues.
